2023 NZ Open Teams Racing National Championships Report
Thievery were the winners at this years edition of the Open Championships – this year at the new venue, being hosted at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club in Auckland. Day 1 was a breezy affair with average winds of around 20 knots for most of the day. The race management team got through almost a full round robin despite some gear breakages which led to a short pause on shore, but after a one hour postponement for high winds the fleet relaunched and got stuck back into it. Kerikeri Open Team Racing National Champs
The 5th annual G.J. Gardner Homes Open Team Racing national championships were hosted by the Kerikeri Cruising Club, racing in Doves Bay. 10 teams escaped the winter by making the trip up to the Bay of Islands hoping for some breeze and sun – competing for the trophy donated by Core Builders Composites in 2018. Auckland Cup 2022
A tough, light and shifty two days took place in the waters of Okahu Bay at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club over the 30th/31st March. Despite the winds best efforts and some lengthy delays in the mornings before racing, the race committee team managed to pump through 79 races across two days! Open Team Sailing Nationals 2021
The 2021 edition of the G.J. Gardner Open Team Sailing National Championships was arguably the best open regatta yet. The ten competing teams got through two full round robins in two days, before the final series was unfortunately blown off by winds well in excess of 30 knots on the third and final day. Congratulations is due to the ‘Crossbred Kiwis’ led by Reuben Corbett for taking home the title for another year! Full event report and results can be found below.

Opens RR1
Racing postponed initially, then boats went afloat only to find the wind hadn’t filled in, so back ashore after 2 hours of waiting. Soon after arriving on shore the breeze came in, with the first race of RR1 starting just after midday. Racing continued all afternoon, with all 45 races of RR1 completed before dark.
