The Wellington TRIYA 420 high school sailing program is currently looking for coaches! TRIYA works with multiple high schools in the Wellington region to encourage youth sailing in the 420 class. The trust runs both learn to sail and racing programs (team sailing and fleet racing). We are looking for enthusiastic people with 420 sailing experience who have (ideally) done some coaching before. Exciting times are in store with some changes coming to the teams racing circuit for the 2024 season! We are really excited to announce that NZTSA has partnered with the New Plymouth Yacht Club to host the 2024 NZSS Team Sailing National Championships. The Secondary Schools Team Racing National Championships has come to a close and after a delayed start, resulting in three days of intense and very breezy racing for the teams, we have a champion! With only one day of racing taking place with full sails on it was a very windy iteration of the championships. Final results from the Central North Island Regionals saw Napier Boys High follow on their strong result coming 2nd in the 2022 National Championships with a victory in their regionals this year. The regatta saw fantastic entry numbers with 12 teams travelling from Wellington to New Plymouth to Tauranga to compete and see how their seasons training had gotten them improving in their team sailing. The Top of the South Regionals was hosted this year by the Marlborough Colleges Sailing Club & the Queen Charlotte Yacht Club over the 30th March to 1st April. After a good southerly blow moved up the South island on Wednesday night and temperatures dropped, Thursday 30 th saw all interisland ferries cancelled due to 6 metre swells in Cook Strait. The Auckland Team Sailing Regionals was held over the 30-31 of March out of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, with 21 teams on the final entry list the stage was set for a great regatta. The first day started with a trickle of breeze from the wrong direction and a handful of races were attempted and led to a few time-outs. The wind soon swung and filled in from the forecast south-west and steadily built through the day. The race committee led by RO Paul Wotton did an amazing job

The first day of racing at the Central North Island Team Sailing Regionals, hosted by the amazing team at LTYC is all wrapped up. The teams have completed one full round robin in qualifying pools, with last years top performers looking strong again – both Napier Boys and Tauranga Boys winning every race in their pool. After a long, long day of racing, a few different wind directions and lots of whistles and flags – the Secondary Schools Team Sailing National Championships & Interdominion Championships has come to a close. Congratulations are in order for every team across the fleet for their efforts throughout the week, we know that all the school teams will be driving and flying home exhausted at the end of a long hard week. A massive congratulations is in order for our six representatives that are currently battling it out with the six travelling Australian teams. In the open division we have got Takapuna Grammar, Glendowie College & Napier Boys High School. In the girls division we have Nelson College for Girls, Whangarei Girls High School and a Christchurch Girls Combined team.

The Race Officer has decided that the conditions are unsafe for racing to take place today, as we have gusts well over 30 knots on the race course. Please note there has been a change to the start time for Friday 7th October, first race is intended to get away at 8:30 AM with a full race plan to be delivered at the morning sailors briefing. Competitors briefing will be taking place at 7:30 AM in front of the clubhouse, with the intention to leave the beach at 8:00 AM.

Day 1 of the regatta is in the books and we have two teams that are still undefeated, Takapuna Grammar in the gold flight and Brisbane Grammar in their mission to be fully warmed up for the Interdoms starting in a couple of days time! The results are available down below and the full race-by-race results are all viewable in the results hub from the menus.

As we start to get closer to the rescheduled 2022 Schools’ Team Sailing National Championships, entries are already coming in from both New Zealand and Australia. Reminder that the regatta is scheduled to be racing from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th October 2022 . All of the race documents are now available on the event page and at the links below. A mind-bending three day battle with the wind and competitors saw the Napier Boys team once again retain their title as the winner of the central north islands! Teams travelled from New Plymouth up to Tauranga to pit themselves against each other in a challenging regatta. There were a few pauses throughout the regatta to wait for the wind to play ball and get the racing underway, but the race committee did an excellent job getting 108 races away. Massive credit as well goes t
