Well, that’s a wrap of the 2024 NZ Secondary Schools Teams Sailing Nationals! A huge thank you to New Plymouth Yacht Club for being such amazing hosts, with excellent support from your members and an amazing venue, coming together to deliver an outstanding event I’m sure many of us will be talking about for years to come. National Championships Announcement
Exciting times are in store with some changes coming to the teams racing circuit for the 2024 season! We are really excited to announce that NZTSA has partnered with the New Plymouth Yacht Club to host the 2024 NZSS Team Sailing National Championships. Hopefully everyone is really excited to get racing in a different venue, this will be the first nationals in New Plymouth since 2007 and the first time that the championships hasn’t been hosted in either Algies Bay or Lake Taup

Westlake On The Double at National Championships 2023

Racing Abandoned for the Day
The Race Officer has decided that the conditions are unsafe for racing to take place today, as we have gusts well over 30 knots on the race course. Please note there has been a change to the start time for Friday 7th October, first race is intended to get away at 8:30 AM with a full race plan to be delivered at the morning sailors briefing. Competitors briefing will be taking place at 7:30 AM in front of the clubhouse, with the intention to leave the beach at 8:00 AM.

Rescheduled Nationals Dates
The dates for the NZ Schools’ Team Racing National Championships have been confirmed, with racing taking place from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th October 2022. This is over the first week of the October school holidays. We are hoping to incorporate the Interdominion Team Racing Championships within the nationals, which will make the top of the gold fleet even more competitive than usual!

2020/21 Season Results
Now that the days are getting much colder we can reflect on the 2020/2021 team racing season and what schools had a season they’ll always remember! First we had our national champions, retaining the title from 2019 – Rangitoto College. The Secondary Schools Team Sailing National Championships is all over and done for another year, with the regatta this year probably consisting of the most racing that we have ever managed at the event. Registration will be open from 13:00 to 17:30 today at the Mahurangi Community Centre in Snells Beach. Make sure teams arrive for a weigh-in and aiming to be over 110kg! At registration you will get your flight allocation and your copies of the race draws so you can see who you’re up against first! Competitors Welcome and Briefing will follow shortly after at 18:00!

Covid-19 Update – SSNats 2020
Due to the ever changing Covid-19 situation most of the regional events have now been suspended for the time being. This is formal notification that the Secondary Schools Team Sailing Nationals at Lake Hood this year has been cancelled. We feel that the April 6 review date for a decision was too distant for teams to attempt to request refunds on accommodation, etc. Looking ahead NZTSA is considering the possibility of holding some regattas during the Winter Tournament Week eg
